Stray Dog Survives In A Well For A Month With The Help Of Kids | Chennai

A stray dog who survived a month in a 25-ft-deep well was recently rescued by the Blue Cross of India volunteers in Ramakrishnaraja Pet, Tiruvallur, Chennai. The dog survived for so long with the help of local residents and kids who kept dropping food into the unused well to keep the dog alive till rescued.

After receiving a call from a student, The Blue Cross of India volunteers reached the spot to rescue the dog. They rappelled down the well and pulled the dog out with a net.

What happened

The residents found the dog who seemed to be an Indian dog breed, trapped in the well after hearing wailing sounds. The dog was almost hidden from the sight due to the vegetation in the well.

Akash, a student of Government Boys Higher Secondary School in the town said, “We tried to rescue the dog and it responded aggressively. It was probably scared after being in the well for so long.”

Akash tried to call the fire and rescue department for help but didn’t receive any response. His teacher who had heard about Blue Cross suggested that they call the organization.

Yuvaraj, an English teacher, said, “I had an inkling that Blue Cross volunteers could help. We called them on Monday and they arrived the next morning. It’s a good thing they responded quickly because we started to get worried that the dog may not survive after it rained for two successive days.”

Blue Cross general manager, Dawn Williams said,

“We were surprised that the dog had survived this long. We knew that it was due to the goodwill of the locals, so we decided to help.”

“A group of students and residents from nearby made sure the dog had food to eat. They even lowered a bucket of water into the well,” he added.

The rescue operation lasted an hour. Dozens of residents had gathered to watch the rescue and rejoiced when the dog was rescued.
