A 4 Day Free Clinic For Pets Starts This Sunday

A four day free clinic for pets is going to start this Sunday, 24 July, 2016,  in Mysore!

A health camp for canines has been launched in the city of Mysuru. The global NGO, World Vets, in collaboration with the city based People For Animal (PFA) has launched this free clinic for pets. Apart from treating pets and stray dogs, Pet Vet clinic will also aim to spreading awareness towards the importance of animal welfare in the city.

The members of World Vets may belong to different countries but they are united by the love for animals. Along with PFA, the organization is also looking forward to implement and afterwards manage World Vets veterinary and disaster relief programmes that will educate people about pet welfare.

“In our country, people love pets and livestock. The most serious disease threatening stray dogs is rabies. Every pet needs to be vaccinated in order to prevent such diseases,” said Dr Gangadhar Patil, Head of People For Animals (PFA)

Dr Ramachandra, joint director of animal husbandry and veterinary services stated that his department in relationship with the Mysuru City Corporation has launched the Animal Birth Control (ABC) programme to regulate the reproduction of stray dogs.

He also said, “We need to spread awareness on how pets are to be cared for. The department is now funding the maintenance of cattle camps and there are proposals to set up shelter for small animals as well.”

All animals would be screened for spay/neuter diseases and bone-related problems.

“Prevention of rabies is a challenge across the world. But, more animals are being vaccinated against the disease,” said Dr Anna Shea Nicholls, a USA based veterinary expert.

Pet Vet Clinic has decided to run sterilization drives in those areas where the population of stray dogs is high like JP Nagar, Dattanagar and Gundurao Nagar. The pet vet clinic will try to treat more than 50 pets per day, and will also examine bone-related disorders and hair fall in pets.
